Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has been named the team’s best player of the 2023-24 season by a statistical publication.
Global media outlet Tribuna published a list of the best Tottenham players this season, titled “The eight best Tottenham players of 2023-24 according to Futscore’s flawed ranking model,” on Monday.
The criteria used was the ratings given by soccer statistics outlet Fúscore.com. FutbolScore uses statistical metrics such as goals, assists, passes, tackles, and interceptions to rate players.
However, it’s difficult to trust it 100% because it tends to undervalue less visible players because it doesn’t take into account factors that data can’t show, such as leadership, judgment, and off-the-ball movement.
Still, Hooscore calculated the average rating of Tottenham’s players over the past year and ranked them in order of highest score. The player with the highest average rating is, unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s captain and ace this season, Son Heung-min.
Son received an average rating of 7.30 from the media, the highest of any Tottenham player. Named captain of Tottenham before the start of the season, he led the Spurs offense with 17 goals and 10 assists this season.
With Son’s skill and leadership on and off the field, Tottenham jumped three spots from eighth place last season to finish the 2023-24 season in fifth place and qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
The next highest scorer after Son was vice-captain James Maddison (7.17). Maddison was followed by Pedro Foro (7.04), Cristian Romero (7.03), Dejan Kulusevski (6.96), Michy Batshuayi (6.83), Micky Vander Penn (6.79), and Brennan 스포츠토토 Johnson (6.76).
“Spurs have had a tough season with injuries to key players, but they have secured a European spot,” the publication said of the eight players, including Son Heung-min, “and Spurs supporters should be thankful for these eight footballers.”
The publication also revealed Bayern Munich’s 2023-24 season HootScore average rating ranking.
“The 2023-24 season was a bit of a failure for Bayern Munich, as they were overwhelmed by Bayer Leverkusen, who won their first Bundesliga title,” the publication said. “Nevertheless, there were players who put in world-class performances and helped the club save face,” it added, listing the top eight players with the highest average ratings, just like Tottenham.
After 11 years without a win, the best performer in Munich was undoubtedly Harry Kane (7.82), the Bundesliga’s top scorer.
Kane was followed by Leroy Sane (7.68), Jamal Musial (7.65), Alfonso Davies, Kingsley Coman, YoJoah (below 7.13), and Leon Goretzka (7.08), while Min-Jae Kim, who was a key part of Munich’s defense in the first half of the season but fell out of contention for a starting role in the second half, had the eighth-highest average rating of 7.03.
