Hwang Hee-chan, ‘3 goals to 12’, named EPL’s 11 Most Valuable FWs

Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton Wanderers) is among the Premier League’s top scorers from a year ago.

“All of these players have seen a dramatic increase in their goal tally compared to last season,” the English Premier League announced on its official social media accounts on Monday (Jan. 29).

All 11 players on the list are players whose performances in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons differed significantly. They struggled to find the back of the net last season, but have improved this season and all have scored double-digit goals in the Premier League.

The Premier League ranked players with 10 or more goals this season in order of how much they have changed from a year ago. South Korea’s Hwang Hee-chan also made the list, being named the most improved striker from a year ago.

Over the past year, Hwang has enjoyed a career-high season since joining the Premier League with Wolverhampton. In the 2023-24 season, Hwang’s Premier League tally was 12 goals and three assists in 29 games, marking his first double-digit league tally since joining Wolverhampton in the summer of 2021. If you include cup competitions, his tally rises to 13 goals and three assists.

In his debut season with Wolverhampton, Hwang scored five goals and provided one assist in 30 league games in 2021-22. In his second year, he scored just three goals and one assist in 27 league games, leading to speculation that he could be released, but in his third season, he came into his own and became one of Wolverhampton’s key attackers.

The Premier League also recognized Hwang as one of 11 players who have seen a dramatic increase in goals, with nine more goals compared to last season.

Football statistics website Fúscore.com also took note of Hwang’s remarkable growth. On April 22, the site ranked the players with the highest rating increase this season based on players who played at least 25 games in the league in both the 2022-2023 season and this season, and Hwang ranked fourth on the list, up 0.48 points from his overall rating last season.

Hwang Hee-chan’s outstanding performances this season have earned him a new contract with Wolverhampton. In December of last year, Wolverhampton re-signed Hwang after he scored eight goals and provided two assists in the league in the first half of the season, extending his contract until June 2028.

In the second half, he was unable to replicate his first-half form as he missed some games due to injury and a call-up to the Asian Football 사설토토 Confederation (AFC) 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar, but he scored two late goals to take his Premier League tally to 20. He surpassed Park Ji-Sung (Manchester United/Queens Park Rangers-19 goals) to become the second highest scorer in the Premier League for a Korean.

“When I look back, I think that 12 goals in the Premier League was not a bad season,” said Hwang Hee-chan, who returned to Korea on the 21st after a successful season with Wolverhampton. “I would like to thank my family, fans, coaching staff and teammates for helping me do well. I think this season has given me confidence and motivation to do better,” he said.

“It was an honor to break the record of Korean soccer legend Park Ji-Sung. Park Ji-sung is the one who gave me the dream of playing in the Premier League, and he nurtured my dream of representing my country as a soccer player,” he said. ‘I’m very happy that I was able to break his record, and I’m proud of myself.’

“I can see how hard it was for Park to get to that point. I have a lot of respect for him because I know how great he is. I’m even more happy that he contacted me after the season to thank me for my hard work, and I’m honored to finish the season with him.”

While Hwang ranks eighth overall in terms of year-on-year goal increase, Chelsea’s boy wonder Cole Palmer tops the list. Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s best new signings this season, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists in his debut season.

After failing to score a goal in the Premier League last season, Palmer’s 22 goals in 2023-24 was a remarkable turnaround. Palmer was followed by Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace), who netted 16 goals this season after scoring just two 토토사이트 추천 last season, and Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth), who increased his tally by 13 goals to finish the season with 19.

Alexandre Lacazette (21 goals-Newcastle United) and Chris Wood (14 goals-Nottingham Forest), who increased by 11 goals, also made the list. Hwang’s partner Mateusz Cunha (12 goals-Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jaredo Boyne (16 goals-West Ham United) and Dele Alli (11 goals-Tottenham Hotspur) also increased their goals by 10 from last season.

Phil Foden (19 goals-Manchester City) was named Premier League Player of the Year, an eight-goal increase from last season, finishing just behind Hwang.
