The Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) will release foreign slugger David McKinnon and sign a new foreign player.
“We have decided to replace McKinnon,” a Samsung club official said in a phone call on the 9th, “and the club will request a waiver announcement for McKinnon from the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) today.”
The team has also decided on a new foreign bat. “We are close to signing a right-handed-hitting outfielder,” the official said, “but the contract has not been finalized, so we plan to make an official announcement later.”
McKinnon played in 72 games this season, batting .294 with four home runs and 36 RBIs.
The numbers don’t look bad on paper. But pace was an issue.
Through May, McKinnon was batting .323 with four home runs, but after June, he struggled, hitting just .221 in 21 games. Notably, he hasn’t produced a single home run.
Samsung decided to replace McKinnon before the All-Star break, and general manager Lee Jong-yeol recently traveled to the United States to spearhead the signing of a new foreign player.
“The new foreign hitter is scheduled to arrive as soon as possible,” a Samsung official said.
McKinnon appeared in the KBO League All-Star Game at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on June 6, where he went 2-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored, earning him the Most Valuable Player award, but it was his last time playing for Samsung. 카지노사이트
