The Miami Marlins have been dealt a major blow at the end of the season. The team announced on Sunday that ace pitcher Sandy Alcantara, 27, and home run slugger Jorge Soler, 31, have been placed on the disabled list (IL) side by side.Alcantara, last year’s Cy Young Award winner, has been unable to throw recently due to right arm soreness. He reportedly felt the soreness after allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits through eight innings in a win over the Washington Nationals on April 4.After going 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA last season, Alcantara has struggled a bit this season, going 7-14 with a 4.14 ERA, but he is still the ace of the Miami mound.Soler, a Cuban slugger, was placed on the IL with a sore side.Soler is batting .240 with 35 home runs and 71 RBIs and was named to the National League All-Star team this season. The absence of Alcantara and Soler, two key pieces of Miami’s offense, will hurt the team in the wild-card race.Miami, which is third in the National League East, is fourth in the wild-card standings as of today. While they are only a half-game behind the 스포츠토토존 third wild-card spot, the Cincinnati Reds, for the final spot in the postseason, Miami will be significantly weakened without Alcantara and Soler.
