Good news for Hwang Hee-chan (28, Wolverhampton). Wolverhampton head coach Gary O’Neill, 41, who recognized his skills throughout last season, has signed a long-term contract with the club.
Wolverhampton announced on Tuesday that “O’Neill has signed a new four-year contract with the club.”
Despite being appointed just before last season, O’Neill has done a great job, leading Wolverhampton to a mid-table finish and an FA Cup quarterfinal appearance.
Along the way, O’Neill earned plenty of praise, especially for wins over Manchester City and away victories over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
“As well as O’Neill, head coach Tim Jenkins, first-team coaches Shaun Derry and Ian Bucknall, goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler and first-team coach analyst Woody Dewar have all signed new contracts with the club,” Wolverhampton announced.
Under O’Neill, Wolverhampton won 17 games in all competitions and scored 50 goals in the Premier League during the 2023-2024 season.
This was one goal shy of the club record and the club’s highest scoring output in the last five years.
“We are ready to build a new cycle of growth, get better results on the pitch and realize our ambitions,” said club chairman Geoff Sheehan. To do that, we need a very good team and O’Neill is an important member of that team, 토토사이트 추천 perhaps the most important member. I am delighted that he has committed to Wolverhampton for the long term.”
“All of the staff are working very closely together to prepare for the new season.”
O’Neill added: “I’m excited about the future. We want to achieve more, and we want to make our fans proud of us,” said O’Neill.
For Hwang, the news of O’Neill’s long-term commitment is a positive one.
Hwang, who O’Neill raved about, re-signed with Wolverhampton in December of last year. He will stay with the club until 2028.
With O’Neill’s re-signing, Hwang will continue to play under him at Wolverhampton unless the club decides to fire him.
O’Neill holds Hwang in high regard. “There’s no reason why he can’t be a 15- to 20-goal player,” he said of Hwang midway through last season. O’Neill believes that Hwang can be a top Premier League striker who scores close to 20 goals every season.
O’Neill was also excited about the news of Hwang’s re-signing.
“I’m happy for him because he’s worked hard,” O’Neill said. Since I’ve been here, me, the staff, her and her teammates have done everything we can. He’s scored some really important goals and I’m happy that we’re going to be able to rely on him for a while longer,” said O’Neill.
“Channy (Hwang’s nickname) came to me and my staff to thank us for our efforts in helping him secure a new contract, and that shows how important he is to our team. It makes me happy to see someone rewarded with goals, assists and a new contract,” he smiled.
